A Geek Tail
For years, he had come over to my house spending hours playing Microsoft Golf, Solitaire, and Minesweeper, on my various machines. He didn't know where to find the "good games", so he just played the same ones over and over again. But when he finally picked up his fancy top-of-the-line computer, the first thing he wanted to do was copy over some games. I lent him a few CDs that had some shareware games on them, and said that he could just copy them on to his hard drive, and install them at his leisure. But Mike was confused with the idea of copying, so he called me up to ask how. I explained to him that he could open up a file explorer window, and just drag and drop the files onto his hard drive. "Dragon Drop?", he asked. "I don't want to play Dungeons and Dragons. I just want to copy some freakin' games!"
At that moment, I was ready to pay to enroll him in a beginner's computer course, so I just told him the easiest way to play games would be to return the computer to the store and trade it in for a Gamebox. At least that way, if he had problems, he could always get his six-year-old son to insert the disk. |

I knew I was going to have problems the day my friend Mike bought his first computer.
